Among ZZ Architects’ vast and admirable portfolio there’s a project that stands out: a decadent seaside 3500 square feet apartment with marvellous views that features Maison Valentina as one has never seen it before.
Over the years, ZZ Architects has become known for its unique approach to interior architecture and design. The firm has a very intimate process of discovering each of their clients’ individual style, allowing them to create a bespoke project that’s unique to each specific client.
As a result, ZZ Architects has been emerging worldwide as a leading full-service luxury architecture, interior design and décor studio with its roots in Mumbai, India. The studio has been receiving awards by the handful for over a decade – including several Architectural Digest AD50 – for designing luxurious villas, streamlined corporate towers, residential high-rises and contemporary interiors for restaurants, hotels, retail, mansions and private villas.
“We focus on quality, and excellent ‘design service’, as being the cornerstone of our practice.”
This luxurious apartment located in Walkeshwar, India, overlooks the famed Mumbai ‘Queens Necklace’ coast. The original structure of the apartment did not differ from the anatomy of an ordinary apartment building – but ZZ Architects doesn’t settle for ordinary. Hence, they became set on creating something truly extraordinary both in the layout and ultimate finishing touches, so as to achieve an eclectic and eccentric final result.
Stepping into the apartment, one is greeted by an abundance of natural light that seeps in through the re-designed floor-to-ceiling windows, placed to allow a seamless view of the delightful coast. Making the kind-on-the-eye view more accessible didn’t present any difficulties. The real challenge, however, was making this apartment feel more intimate: the low ceiling heights and structural beams were camouflaged so as to make the divisions feel seamless and thus, more embracing.
The living room reveals how well ZZ Architects has mastered combining different textures, colours, fabrics and even design styles. The floor tiles present stunning patterns which are then contrasted by the embossing on top of the centre table. The round sofas complement the room’s circular fluidity and two of these, in blue, offer a dashing pop of colour that makes the room feel even more opulent.
The dining room features the same majestic views as the living room, as well as an imposing lighting piece that hangs over the golden, nature-inspired dining table, whose theme is then echoed by a Ginkgo Biloba-like lighting piece. Even so, the most remarkable part of this stellar room is yet to be mentioned.
The pièce de résistance is the Newton Freestanding by Maison Valentina. Placed against a geode wall, the Newton Freestanding serves not only as a functional piece that allows for hand-washing right before dinner, but also as a highly decorative piece. Its black and gold spheres come together to create a truly unique and versatile design piece that reflects all the beauty surrounding it.
Taking the shape of an open capsule, the kitchen has concentric curved counters and a matte glass island arc standing central. Once again flawlessly combining diverging textures and colours, ZZ Architects curated a kitchen that is intricate and chic, going past beyond its functional use. With state-of-the-art gadgets having their designated zones, it is an elevated workspace of the upper echelons.
Last but certainly not least, the grandiose master bedroom. As the remainder of the residence, this room is surrounded by curved walls, which the firm decided to mirror by placing a round bed, slightly angled towards the window so the view can be fully appreciated, both at the end of a long day and in the beginning of a great one.
